Fabrice Midal

Fabrice Midal is a French philosopher and teacher known for bringing meditation back to something simple, alive, and deeply human. Trained in philosophy at the Sorbonne, he explored how Western thought, from Nietzsche to Simone Weil, can illuminate the inner life just as much as Buddhist wisdom. He became one of the major figures of the contemporary contemplative movement in France by insisting that meditation is not a technique to optimize oneself, but an art of being present, vulnerable, and genuinely available à la rencontre.

He founded Reso, a large community dedicated to transmitting meditation in a way that is demanding, accessible, and rooted in culture rather than dogma. His numerous books and courses open the practice to audiences ranging from educators to caregivers, blending philosophical clarity with warmth and humor. Across his work runs a single thread: helping people rediscover dignity, courage, and the simple act of being fully themselves in the world.

"I feel like a partner with HSA...excited to continue to grow and take on the challenges ahead as we change the world."

"In an effort to repair the damage in my heart, I began a journey to heal. I saw the course and it was a no-brainer- I signed up! The marriage between the lectures and the life journal was masterful. Knowing that it wasn't "homework" but, "me-search" was motivating. I "lived" the lectures, discovered new ways to approach my life and it also reinforced what I had already been doing. Tal was able to teach complex material in a way that was digestible. In fact, it wasn't until now, that I have realized how much I have been taught and how much holistic understanding I have of the material. He is a master and his love for this field is clear. He is humble and human and truly makes the student feel that we are on this journey together and that we are as important as he is to the course. As an alumna, I feel like a partner with HSA. I am excited to continue to grow and take on the challenges ahead as we change the world. Thank you for this gift. I look forward to the future and the adventures to come. The only conflict I graduate with is where to begin first?! I want to do it all- teach at schools, senior homes, seminars, build a happier center etc. I'll take one step at a time and it will unfold. I'm just glad that I have something more to offer our sad world. "
