A few words from Tal

These days, as the Coronavirus spreads far and wide, and as fear spreads farther and wider, is the Science of Happiness even relevant? Shouldn’t it, perhaps, lock itself up, quarantine itself in isolation, until the COVID-19 threat subsides and better times are upon us? The short answer is that the science of happiness matters regardless of external circumstances. It matters because it can help us increase our levels of wellbeing when things are going well. It matters even more because it makes us more resilient, helping us through tough times. In this course, world-renowned expert Dr. Tal Ben-Shahar, will introduce evidence-based interventions that, beyond strengthening our psychological immune system (mental resilience), also bolster our body’s immune system (physical resilience).


The course comprises six live sessions online. Each session is ninety minutes long and comprises a lecture followed by Q&A. While Dr. Ben-Shahar will present some of the latest research findings in the field, the primary focus of this course is providing you with tools and techniques that can help you navigate these challenging times, personally and interpersonally, at home and at work.

Introducing Happiness

This lecture introduces the SPIRE model of happiness, comprising spiritual, physical, intellectual, relational and emotional wellbeing. Understanding the nature of happiness can contribute to our ability to deal with challenges and hardship.

 One of the most powerful ways of experiencing calm and wellbeing in the midst of chaos is through meditation. Moreover, by practicing mindfulness, coupled with other evidence-based tools, we can restore a sense of meaning in our life.

About the Instructor

Dr. Tal Ben-Shahar is the co-founder of the Happiness Studies Academy, as well as the creator and instructor of the Certificate in Happiness Studies program.  

After graduating from Harvard with a BA in Philosophy and Psychology and a PhD in Organizational Behavior, Tal taught two of the most popular courses in Harvard’s history: Positive Psychology and The Psychology of Leadership, and currently teaches Happiness Studies at Columbia University.

He is an international, best- selling author whose books have been translated into more than 25 languages.  

In addition to establishing The Happiness Studies Academy, he is also the co-founder of Potentialife and Happier.TV. Tal is a certified yoga instructor whose work bridges Eastern and Western traditions, ancient wisdom and modern technology, science and art.
